I want to start this post reflecting on the communion meditation given by one of the students this morning. She spoke about love, and not Jesus’ love for us that sent Him to earth. Well an extension of that love, and I must testify I was moved with compassion at her words. She spoke from 1Cor the famous love passage, but she took it one step further. She posed the question “what does that love look like?” She talked about how a pure and Holy God would be moved so much about her plight and come embody a human form to redeem her, a sinner. I feel like we sometimes miss that when we as the body are so moved with the plight of our neighbors, that we too would sacrifice everything to redeem them to Jesus.
I want to propose a book for you to read: Love Does by Bob Goff. He is an amazing man of the Word and brings Gods message through the pages of his book. He talks about how we are called to love. We aren’t called to save or to judge or even to convict. That’s the Holy Spirit as John puts it. That’s His job not ours. We are called to show Gods love to anyone and everyone He puts in our path. When Jesus tells His disciples “you will do greater things than I have done” this is what He is talking about. It is so difficult to love the unlovely. It is difficult to love the undeserving, but that is our call. Be blessed and love some unlovely people this week.
On February 9th Shiloh Missionary Baptist and NCC students are invited to go to the nursing homes once again.
We went in late December before Christmas and prayed with the elderly. We had such a resounding response of thank you’d that we are planning on making this a reoccurring event. We had about 10 students go last time around and had such an uplifting experience loving on the elderly. We broke up in groups of 2 students and a leader to maximize the time and exposure.
If your student is ready to be challenged by Jesus’ command to remember the elderly encourage your student to come join us.
At a family reunion this weekend my daughter and niece were playing Just Dance 3. It was great exercise and got the whole family moving. I’m not gonna lie I think she needs one for her birthday coming up in June!
We were enjoying the time, but I was kinda disappointed with how many songs we had to bypass. Many songs weren’t overly sexual, but the innuendos were too much for my convictions to allow my easily influenced daughter to dance to. I’m sure you have dealt with this in some form or another.
Why haven’t any organizations come up with games that have uplifting music to dance to like TFK, Trip Lee, Casting Crowns, Toby Mac or even Mandesa. How many games have come out in the past 10 years that have to do with dancing, bands, or singing along? Too many to not have one that is positively aimed.
What can I do as a leader to influence others to strive to attain that kind of outcome? I remember when I was a kid the first GameBoy I bought with my own money. I saved and saved and bought it. At the local Christian bookstore I bought a game that was really cool. I wish I could remember the title. I remember it very well, it was Call of Duty for Christian kids. You went around throwing spiritual fruit at demon possess people, freed people from bondage, and recharged your powers with prayer. I so wish we had an alternative way to get our game on!
